STRIDE PIANO - BOOGIE-WOOGIE - BLUES
Learning early jazz piano is difficult because it is a very visual style of music which has nearly disappeared today. Even if a natural ear for music allows to immerse in the sounds we hear on records, a sheet music is very useful to learn the basis of Stride piano and play it properly.
There are very few transcriptions of the great jazz pianists and this is a lack in the musical edition and for people who want to learn this style of music and keep it alive. I have transcribed a number of pieces very precisely, by listening to the original recordings. Almost none of these music pieces have been transcribed or published yet.

ABOUT TRANSCRIPTIONS :
These transcriptions will help you to understand many characteristics of the classic jazz piano styles (Stride, Boogie-woogie, Blues) but they are not supposed to be played with a great accuracy. It's nearly impossible to play as the great Stide pianists used to do. Every piece must be performed with the genuiness and the freshness that Stride and Boogie piano requires. In our own way, we can give a second life to these pieces. The left hand lpaying requires a great skill that you get with practice : it is useless to play tenth with your left hand (especially in quick tempo) if your technical level and your morphology do not allow it, or do not allow it yet ! Play only the low note then. Do not forget that Stride ans Boogie-woogie are part of Jazz and is mainly improvised, by opposition to classical music and this music has to keep his improvised and spontaneous character. |
